Former president of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberg was awarded with “Golden medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan on behalf of Nizami Ganjavi”. Medal was donated by ANAS president acad. Akif Alizadeh in the presentation ceremony of “Golden Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan on behalf of Nizami Ganjavi” at “Four seasons Baku” hotel by organization of International Center of Nizami Ganjavi within 3rd Global Baku Forum.
Vaira Vike-Freiberg was awarded for her merits in development of Azerbaijan-Latvia ties, including delivering universal values of Nizami Ganjavi works to the world at large scale, promo fulfillments in the direction of inter-nations, inter-cultures dialogue, tolerance and cognition.
The name of V.Vike-Freiberg is written as the first female president of Latvia including in the whole of Eastern Europe. She was state figure who achieved Latvia’s membership to European Union and NATO during her governance in 1999-2007. Distinguishing with her special activity in international politics V.Vike-Freiberg is the Special Envoy of UN Secretary General, powerful and professional politician, and a true leader. Moreover, she authored for researches, 10 books, more than 160 articles in the field of for memory, psychology, language and cognition.
According to the Decree of the AR President on September 30, 2012, within the events of 870th anniversary of great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi in Ganja city, Vike-Freiberg was defined co-chair of the International Center of Nizami Ganjavi.
Latvia's outstanding statesman awarded with "Hannah Arendt" for her political considerations, "Emperor Otto" for identifying Europe's future and national cognition, "Hayek" for promoting freedom and free trade, and many other awards, including 37 Order of Labour and 16 "Doctor of Honor".
