"Yaqut" hall of Hilton-Baku hotel hosted for the ceremony of publication of the winner projects of the target competitions "University Grant" and "Industrial Grant" which are carried out by Fund of Science Development under President of Azerbaijan in 2014, on May 14.

Executive director of SDF Elchin Babayev provided information on the projects. Group of scientists and experts from ANAS, educational institutions, research institutes operating under ministries, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other science oriented organizations as well as individual scientists (natural persons) attended grant competitions Organized by the Foundation on an equal basis in an atmosphere of transparency. Grant projects submitted by Provisional creative groups composed of scientists and specialists preferred during the competitions.

Taking into account effectiveness of research funding by way of grants, agreed with the Board of Trustees of the Science Development Fund and Ministry of Finance, a number of higher education institutions are envisaged to allocate budgeted funds in the form of grants due to carry out researches and for the first time on November 3, 2014 "University grant" competition was announced. The total amount of grant funding under this competition is expected to 910 thousand manat.

37 projects entered into the competition, technical and scientific expertise of the project was organized, permanent experts of the Science Development Fund and independent experts have been involved to the expertise. The results were discussed by Board of Trustees of the Science Development Fund, 11 projects were determined winners with a total funding of 890 thousand manat. Grant projects will be implemented in the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy (4 projects), Azerbaijan Medical University (3), Azerbaijan State Agrarian University (2), Azerbaijan State Economic University (1) and Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1). Projects will be implemented within 12, 18 and 24 months and 68 highly-qualified scientists and experts of the higher education institutions will be engaged with the implementation of these projects. One of the project managers is woman, 2 projects will be implemented in Ganja.

Note that, organizational support for “University grant” was provided by AR Ministry of Education.

"University Grant" Target Competition was held for the first time with the purpose of target financing through grants of the projects directed on support of important scientific researchers conducted in a number of higher education institutions at the high level.

The target Competition "Industrial Grant" was held according to the Order of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic dated January 10, 2014 # 212 "About the announcement of 2014 in the Azerbaijan Republic "Year of the industry" and article "Supporting scientific researchers conducted in the sphere of development of the industry" section "Increasing staff and scientific capacity of the Industry" "The plan of measures in connection with the announcement the 2014 -"Year of the industry" in Azerbaijan Republic, approved by the Order of the President of Azerbaijan Republic dated March 12, 2014 # 331 for the purpose of financing important research projects and actions directed on modernization of the industry of the country and development of not oil industry, acceleration of industrialization of economy even more rational use of the available potential for development of the industry by means of grants.

"Industrial Grant" was created on October 27, 2014 by Science Development Fund and total grant funding is envisaged 500 thousand manat.

The competition was held on the basis of scientific priorities (scientific and technological problems of industry; modernization of industry, infrastructure improvement and diversification problems of non-oil industry, raising the innovation and investment potential of the country, possibility of introducing innovative technologies and formation of opportunities providing innovative development, challenges to attract domestic and foreign investments in industry, etc.).

38 projects entered into the competition, technical and scientific expertise of the projects have been organized, permanent experts of the Science Development Fund and independent scientific experts to evaluate the project, the results were discussed by the Board of Trustees of the Fund. Academics, experts and individually scholars from the higher educational institutions, research and other organizations attached to the ministries, NGOs, industry related bodies attended the competition.

Azerbaijan Republic Ministry of Economy and Industry has organizationally supported the competition.

6 winners, including project funding of 480 thousand manat were determined. Grant projects will be implemented at the University of Architecture and Construction (1), ANAS Institute of Chemistry Additives (1), ANAS Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry (2), ANAS Industrial-Experimental Plant (1) and Institute of Petrochemical Processes (1) within 12 months, including 37 scientists and experts will deal with the implementation of these projects. One of the project managers is woman. A number of projects will be carried out together with other institutions (Institute of Geology and Geophysics, "ISRA-Group" MMC).
