Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The regular meeting of the Presidium of ANAS was held. First of all the president of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh presented diplomas of ANAS to academician Ziyad Samedzadeh (in connection with his 75th anniversary) Academician Seyfaddin Aliyev (in connection with the 85th anniversary), Academician Irada Huseynova (in connection with the 50th anniversary), corresponding member of ANAS Rauf Huseynov (in connection with his 75th anniversary), and corresponding member of ANAS Mukhtar Imanov (in connection with the 60th anniversary). Then academician introduced the issues on the agenda.

Then was listened report of the chancellor of Baku State University (BSU), academician Abel Maharramov on topic “Innovative development of science and education”. Recent years, several reforms are being carried out both in ANAS and in the university due to set up Science-Education-Innovation triangle and introduce it in a balanced developed plane including, implement events intended pursuant to “Azerbaijan 2020: vision to future” Development Concept and “State Strategy for development of education in the Republic of Azerbaijan”, he stated.

According to the scientist, high technologies (nanotechnology, biotechnology etc.) providing the unity of science and education are formed as an intersection of various sciences, these researches are held by co-participation of chemists, physicians, biologists and specialists of other spheres and require multidisciplinary approach to staff training.

Later on, was delivered lecture dubbed "Research in the field of nanomaterials, applications and prospects” co-autored by dean of BSU Department of Physics, Dr. Physics, Professor Mahammadali Ramazanov and A.Maharramov.

The report conducts that, President Ilham Aliyev who successfully continues the course of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, is the founder of science policy in the country, pays great attention to the development of science in Azerbaijan and preparation of highly skilled personnel in the field of science and education. It has been adopted numerous decisions in raising the profile of science and education of employees in the community, as well as the promotion of scientific results obtained in Azerbaijan and abroad.

Then there was an exchange of views on the report. Academicians Ahliman Amiraslanov, Garib Mammadov, Vagif Farzaliyev, Rasim Alguliev, Telman Aliyev, Bahadur Tagiyev, Irada Huseynova, corresponding member of ANAS Nazim Mammadov and others reported with questions.

Considering the importance of research for the integration of science, education and innovation, at the meeting was adopted a resolution on their continuing and ensuring the implementation of the multidisciplinary research conducted in the field of nanomaterials at Baku State University in cooperation with relevant institutions of ANAS.

Then at the meeting adopted a resolution to hold a number of anniversaries: the 85th anniversary of the late Academician Bakir Nabiyev, the 75th anniversary of corresponding member of ANAS Shahbaz Muradov and the 60th anniversary of corresponding member of Veli Bakhshaliyev.

Next was discussed ANAS staff’s foreign academic trips, consideration was given to the secondment of employees of ANAS Institute of Radiation Problems to the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna) and a number of staff problems.
