As a result of joint efforts of the staff from Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, French National Research Center and the Paris Saint-Germain National Museum, stone box graves dated back 3,000 years of history were discovered during excavations in Monidigah village of Lerik region, reports Abuzar Alakbarov, head of Collection of archaeological artifacts of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, research expedition of monuments and archaeological to the South-East Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani-French international archaeological expedition.
According to him, at the end of the XIX century French archaeologist Jacques de Morgan and his brother Henry Morgan carried out amateur archaeological research in Lerik. As a result of the same researches, stone box graves and a considerable amount of archaeological materials referring to Bronze Age and early Iron Age have been revealed. Findings, including ceramic ware, jewelry, weapons etc. were exported to France and currently, are maintaining at the Museum of Saint-Germain.
