Azerbaijani scientist published in UK journal

 New work of prominent scientist-orientalist, Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature, active member of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and Oxford Academic Union Rafael Huseynov was published in UK. The results of study of Academician Raphael Huseynov titled “Medieval Azerbaijani Manuscripts as Eternally Actual Culture and Intellectual Event” were published in the prestigious bulk “Socrates Almanac”, which is published twice a year.

Besides, the Azerbaijani scientist as the prominent expert on Oriental Studies was included in the editorial board of the “Socrates Almanac”.

In study of Academician Raphael Huseynov referring the gratitude to the alphabet and the book of the famous thinker of the X-XI centuries Abu Rayhan Biruni: “Written knowledge is some kind of information which is surpassing all other types of news. After all, if there were no written monuments where we could be informed on legends of the people!” it is considered the 1000-year history of the Azerbaijani manuscripts.

The author noted that, the first book of Azerbaijan was published by method of a font set in 1818 in Tabriz, to same throughout 8-9 centuries samples of domestic literature extended only by means of hand-written books, proves that this low-studied heritage represents a key source on the way to studying of our national heritage. Having analyzed samples of significant priceless manuscript created by Azerbaijani calligraphy and miniatures in Turkish, Persian and Arabic Academician Rafael Huseynov on the basis of the concrete facts proves positive impact of our hand-written book traditions on cultural progress in the Middle East.

In study the special attention is focused that, new calligraphical samples created on the basis of the Arab alphabet had strong impact on revival of medieval book art, some of which were invented by Azerbaijani masters.

Narrating about the scholar and poet Mir Ali ibn Ilyas Tabrizi, who created the widely popular in the Muslim East handwriting “nastalig” introduced a revolutionary innovation in the art of calligraphy, and other eminent personalities, Academician Rafael Huseynov highlights the fact that, in essence, Azerbaijani experts were founders of the whole schools, currents and directions in the cultural world of the Middle Ages.

Noting the existence of some 1,600 miniatures to poems of Nizami, the 67 manuscripts stored in the Topkapi Museum in Istanbul, R. Huseynov also took the initiative of collecting and publishing in a separate edition of the Azerbaijan miniatures stored in various museums and libraries of the world.

Published in ”Socrates Almanac” (UK) the scientific work of Academician Rafael Huseynov can be considered significant scientific events and achievements in the recognition of our cultural and intellectual heritage, and prominent creative individuals of the motherland internationally.
