Next workshop of international consortium Borlaug Global Rust Initiative was held in Sydney, Australia.

Note that, ongoing consortium has been established by joint efforts of international organizations of ICAR, ICARDA, CIMMYT and FAO in 2008. Consortium aims reducing the world’s vulnerability to stem, yellow and leaf rusts of wheat and facilitating the evolution of sustainable international partnerships to contain the threat of wheat rusts.

Within the workshop lectures reflecting the outputs of the latest researches carried put on wheat rusts were listened and conducted extended discussions.

Brought to mind that, by supervisory of Academician Jalal Aliyev, Azerbaijan Scientific-Research Institute of Agriculture is being carried out studies over wheat rusts for many years. In latest 5 years, Institute of Botany of ANAS has kicked off studies on resistance of wheat to brown, yellow and stem rusts, and obtained vital results. These studies are held joint with Dr. Les Szabo, associate of U.S Department of Agriculture Plan Diseases Laboratory.

Lecture composed of the outputs of joint research was presented by Academician Jalal Aliyev, Acad. Irada Huseynova, Dr. Biology Dilzara Aghayeva, PhD in Biology Etibar Ibrahimov, PhD in Biology Samira Rustamova and Dr. Les Szabo in the workshop.
