On October 22, ANAS Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry named after acad. M. Nagiyev held a republican scientific conference devoted to notable scientist-chemist, Honored Scientist, Academician Togrul Shahtakhtinski’s 90th anniversary.
In advance, exhibition reflecting scientist’s life and activity was demonstrated in the foyer of the institute.
Making speech in the event, Academician-secretary of Department of Chemical Sciences, director of the institute, Acad. Dilgam Tagiyev spoke about Acad. Togrul Shahtakhtinski’s rich and significant way of life and his contributions to Azerbaijan science. Being known with his monograph about oil in 1959, T. Shahtakhtinski carried out fundamental studies in the sphere of oil and chemistry and chemistry technologies in the country over long years. Scientist’s research has been devoted to theoretical basis in the oil and chemical synthesis, chemical kinetics and catalysis, chemical technology. The catalytic conversion of hydrocarbons in the process of organic and petrochemical synthesis, development of scientific bases of chemistry technology cover a broad spectrum of problems, he stated.
Besides scientific activity, academician was engaged in hi-qualified staff training as well. He supervised over 60 PhDs and Doctors of sciences.
Togrul Shahtakhtinski’s activity has been highly appraised by the government. He awarded the “Shohrat” and “Istiglal”, supreme orders of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan, noted D. Tagiyev.
Later on, were listened lectures by Acad. Agadadash Aliyev on “Optimal junction reaction for oxidative conversion process of methane into ethylene and acetylene”, corresponding member of ANAS Gudrat Kalbaliyev on “Rheological model of non-Newtonian oil filtration”, Dr. Engineering Tarana Mammadova on “Extraction of biodiesel by means of various catalysts”, and discussions were held.
Academicians Maharram Mammadyarov, Musa Rustamov, Vagif Farzaliyev, Vagif Abbasov, Akif Azizov, Agadadash Aliyev, Prof. Arif Afandi and others shared memories about notable scientist and dealt with his merits in chemistry science.
