Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

The expanded meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) devoted to discussion of research priorities advanced by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the General Meeting held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of ANAS.

At the event delivered the paper on "The development of the space industry in the country and the assimilation of international scientific experience in this field, especially in the provision of country studies in the field of high technology" by Academician-Secretary of Department of Earth Sciences, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, which was articulated around the President Ilham Aliyev's ideas.

On February 8, 2013 by means of the French carrier rocket "Ariane-5" in a geostationary orbit the first telecommunication satellite of Azerbaijan was launched by "AZERSPACE-1".

Having reminded of it, the Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov noted that after that the relevant committee UN included the Azerbaijan in the list of the space countries. The republic assumed obligations for use of a space in the peace purposes.

The Academician emphasized that, at the end of 2014 Azerbaijan already had the low-orbital satellite for supervision over Earth surface.

Start of this satellite will play a big role in the solution of the existing problems an orbit by modern methods and will create conditions for carrying out basic researches in the field of sciences about Earth, in the sphere of further development of oil science, research of the Caspian Sea and other small water basins, geological investigation and search of minerals, in the sphere of seismology, geography, environmental protection, agriculture, topography and cartography.

On October 24, 2014 with the assistance of representatives of countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States the Fifth meeting devoted to cooperation in space activity took place.

Speaking about that, the Academician noted that, on action the Agreement on creation of the international intergovernmental research organization "Joint Institute of Space Researches" was signed. He reminded the thought by the President Ilham Aliyev on anniversary action "We have to be more active in preparation of personnel potential.

Fakhraddin Gadirov noted need to train personnel in this sector.
