Extended meeting of the Presidium of ANAS discussed scientific priorities put forward by President Ilham Aliyev

There was an extended meeting of the Presidium of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences of (ANAS) to discuss research priorities put forward by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the General Meeting, organized on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of ANAS. The event was articulated around the President Ilham Aliyev's ideas "Further successful continuation of research related to the development of the oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan" was made by Head of the Department of Geophysics of the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry, Academician Parviz Mammadov.

Academician noted that earth sciences, and in particular, oil and gas geology and geophysics have traditionally been significant wing of the national science, it is in this sector were made by large-scale scientific achievements and discoveries.

In the last century were the main methods of geophysics magnetometers and gravimeters, which have been tested on the Absheron Peninsula, Parviz Mammadov noted that these methods were first used in the 1930s in Azerbaijan. Academician added that, in the 1980s, during the first application in a sea of highly informative method of a common depth point is also actively involved Azerbaijani scientists. Thanks to the efforts of specialists of the trust "Caspianseaoilgeophysics" as a result of replacement of analog recording seismic stations with digital recording stations increased fruitfulness and resolution seismic exploration.

The scientist noted that in the late 80s of the last century in marine seismic exploration have been applied computerized seismic stations and technology of high-guidance systems.

Parviz Mammadov said that in 1989 began a new phase of seismic prospecting: the first time in the oil and gas structures deposits "Azeri" were held three-dimensional (3D) observation, and then the same observations were made in the fields of "Chirag", "Guneshli", "Shahdeniz" and "Umid" covering an area totaling 15,000 km.

The scientist noted that according to recent years, Azerbaijan's proven oil reserves amount to 2 billion tons, gas reserves - 2.55 trillion cubic meters. A potential reserves exceed these figures are approximately 1.5 times. Hydrocarbon reserves are conditionally oil equivalent to 10-15 billion tones. Currently, the largest oil fields "Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli" and gas field "Shahdeniz" seriously increased production, daily produces about 80-90 million tons of oil, 500 million cubic meters of gas. Today, the successful result of a "Contract of the Century" is an oil and gas production on a large scale and successful implementation of projects on their transportation.
