Academic Board of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics discussed vital issues

Next meeting of Academic Board of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics  (IGG) was held on December 4.

Event was opened by President of ANAS, director of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Acad. Akif Alizadeh. In advance, he informed on the orders of ANAS President and decisions of the Presidium.

Later on, chief of Paleothology and stratigraphy department, Dr. Geology-mineralogy Shehali Babayev delivered a lecture on “Evolution of biodiversity during Neogene period in Azerbaijan”. The reporter said that during the Neogene period, short-term episodes of biodiversity, where it has changed dramatically, have been marked based on long-term studies, and specified stratigraphic importance of fauna. Database of major groups of Neogene macrofauna and microfauna (gastropods, bivalves, foraminifers, and ostrakoda) was created, also defined 5 upward cycles (sakaraul, chokrak, sarmatian, pont, akchagil) in analyze of biodiversity evolution in the Neogen period.

Noted that, the results of investigation have been reflected on "The fourth quarter system paleontological Atlas of Azerbaijan" and on a number of scientific publications.

Then, carried out scientific and organizational work that completed in 2015 and discussed works done on topics “Modeling process of the multilayer gas and gas condensate deposits" as well as "Science metric research of editions in the fields of processing of an oil geology, geochemistry, geophysics, oil and gas deposits due to select the priority directions”.

In addition, the head of the Board of young scientists and researchers, PhD in geology Orkhan Abbasov reported on activities of the Board for 2015.

Assembly continued with discussion of staff preparation and other issues.
