Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The staff of ANAS watched the performance “The Day Lasts More than a Hundred Years” based on the novel of Chingiz Aitmatov, a prominent Kyrgyz writer in the Azerbaijan State Drama Theater.  

Before the performance, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, President of ANAS, Kairat Osmanaliev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Azerbaijan, People's Artist Natig Aliyev, rector of Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts, members and employees of the Presidium of ANAS visited the monument of world-famous Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aytmatov in Baku and honored his memory.

At the Azerbaijan State Drama Theater, before the start of the performance, Academician Isa Habibbeyli spoke about the path and activity of prominent Kyrgyz figure Chingiz Aitmatov, gave information about his artistic creativity, and pointed out that his memory is always honored in Azerbaijan at a high level and his books are still read with great interest. Saying that National Leader Heydar Aliyev always paid attention to the creativity of a great son of the Turkic world, the academician Isa Habibbeyli mentioned that Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov was awarded the high order of “Dostlug” (Friendship) by President Ilham Aliyev. He also highlighted that President Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening ceremony of the monument to Chingiz Aitmatov in Baku. The academician said that Chingiz Aitmatov always described National Leader Heydar Aliyev as a genius, and an outstanding statesman, and valued President Ilham Aliyev as an influential leader of the global world. The President of ANAS underscored that the artistic creativity of Chingiz Aitmatov, the eternal master of words of the Turkic World, is still being studied on various scientific directions from the literary studies point of view. Academician Isa Habibbeyli expressed his gratitude to the leadership and staff of the Azerbaijan State Drama Theater for the high-level performance, professional acting, and the scene according to the relevant period. 

Afterward, the staff of ANAS watched the performance “The Day Lasts More than a Hundred Years” directed by an honored art worker, and creative director of Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theatre Mehriban Alakbarzade. The employees of the scientific research institutions of the Humanitarian and Social Sciences Departments of ANAS, well-known scientists of the Academy, and representatives of the Seismological Service Center were among the audience as well.

Together with the leadership and staff of the Academy, Adil Karimli, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Farid Jafarov, Deputy Minister of Culture, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Azerbaijan, Kairat Osmanaliev, author of the monument of Chingiz Aitmatov in Baku, Rector of the Azerbaijan Academy of Arts, People's Artist Natig Aliyev, Aflatun Amashov, editor-in-chief of the “Xalq Qəzeti” newspaper, Professor Karim Tahirov, director of Azerbaijan National Library, figures of science and culture of the Turkic world and media representatives watched the performance.

Afterward, academician Isa Habibbeyli, President of ANAS, and Adil Karimli Minister of Culture of the Azerbaijan Republic met with the team of the performance and took photos as a remembrance of the day.

The performance, directed by an honored art worker and artistic director of the Academic National Drama Theater Mehriban Alakbarzade, can be considered one of the important achievements of a new stage in Azerbaijan's history. The team of the Theatre put on a successful performance and perfect dramatic version of “The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years” novel by Chingiz Aitmatov.
