Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

Nobel Prize laureate, honorary member of ANAS, Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of North Carolina, prominent scientist Aziz Sancar is on a visit to Azerbaijan at the invitation of the president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli.

During a visit, the president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli, Nobel Prize laureate Aziz Sancar, the president of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan Professor Allaberdi Ashyrov and employees of the Turkish embassy visited the tomb of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the Alley of Honors, put flowers at the tomb and paid tribute to the National Leader.

Then, the scientists honored the memory of Zarifa Aliyeva, the National Leader`s wife, outstanding ophthalmologist, academician and put flowers at the grave.

They also visited the graves of academician Yusif Mammadaliyev and People's Artist Muslum Magomayev.

The scientists visited the Alley of Martyrs and Turkish Martyrs' Memorial and respectfully honored the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the liberation of Baku.

It should be mentioned that the visit of Aziz Sancar will last till June, 6. The outstanding scientist will report on the theme “Turkic world science policy: realities and challenges” at the special meeting of ANAS, he will be presented with an honorary member diploma and a certificate of ANAS. The scientist will also visit the Nakhchivan Division of ANAS, its scientific institutions and organizations as well as the higher educational institutions of the republic.
