A press conference of the Nobel Prize laureate, honorary member of ANAS, Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Aziz Sancar, was held in the Presidium of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
Aziz Sancar answered the questions of the representatives of mass media and spoke about his impressions.
“I am very pleased to be in Azerbaijan. I one more time express my gratitude to the leadership of ANAS for the attention. When I first came to Azerbaijan, Karabakh was under occupation. The Karabakh issue was the center of everybody’s attention in all our talks. And during my second-time visit to Azerbaijan, Karabakh was liberated, but Khankendi was still under the control of the enemy and people were worried about it. But this time, talking to the people I have met, I have witnessed the confidence. The people look to the future with hope. We don’t have a territory problem”
The world-famous Professor Aziz Sancar also spoke about his visit to Nakhchivan.
“My visit to Nakhchivan was of great importance for me. I always wanted to visit this place. I have found the weather in Nakhchivan to be more pleasant than in Baku. Thank you for the attention and warm welcome in Nakhchivan”.
The Professor also touched upon the meetings in Azerbaijan Medical University and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Azerbaijan Republic.
Aziz Sancar said that China had overtaken the U.S. with its scientific achievements and underlined that it is important for the countries of the Turkic world to follow China's experience in their activities.
The Nobel Prize laureate expressed his satisfaction with the integration of Azerbaijan and Turkey and considered it necessary to pay attention to the scientists of the Turkic states.
The photos were taken at the end of the conference as a remembrance of the day.
