On September 12, the President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, met with Doctor of science Nebil Shahin Mohammad, a staff member of the University of Kirkuk (Iraq) and Chairman of the Organization of Turkmen Scholars, Doctor of science Ali Hussein Bayatly, Kirkuk researcher and Doctor of science Savash Khurmuzlu, a staff member of the Kirkuk Technical Institute at Mosul Northern Technical University.
Speaking at the meeting, Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that he first visited Kirkuk in 1994 as part of the Azerbaijani delegation in connection with the 500th anniversary of the renowned Azerbaijani poet Muhammad Fuzuli.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that Kirkuk and Turkmens hold great spiritual significance for Azerbaijan highlighting that extensive research is being conducted at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in the field of Azerbaijani-Kirkuk literary relations, Turkmen literature, language, folklore, and more. He emphasized the special contributions of the prominent Kirkuk literary scholar Ata Terzibashi and Professor Gazanfar Pashayev in establishing and developing mutual relations in this direction.
The Academician also emphasized an international scientific conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Ata Terzibashi was held at ANAS, where renowned Kirkuk scholars and researchers with the organization of Kirkuk researcher and writer Shamsaddin Kuzechi participated at the event. Additionally, the head of ANAS noted that books related to the Azerbaijani language, history, literature, folklore, and culture were sent to Kirkuk through the conference participants.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli also stated that Azerbaijani scholars will be represented at the international conference to be held in Iraq in October, dedicated to the 530th anniversary of Muhammad Fuzuli.
He mentioned that during the visit, additional books will be presented as gifts to Kirkuk University.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized that ANAS is interested in cooperation with the scholars and higher education institutions of Kirkuk and that necessary support will be provided for further development of Azerbaijani-Kirkuk literary relations.
Next, Doctor of science Nebil Shahin Mohammad expressed his pleasure at being at ANAS and expressed his gratitude to Academician Isa Habibbeyli for the warm welcome. The scholar provided information about his scientific and pedagogical activities, noting that he has been working at Kirkuk University for 17 years and has received his master’s degree in Türkiye and his doctorate in Scotland. He also mentioned that, as the Chairman of the Organization, he is actively cooperates with young people and international scientific institutions.
Nebil Shahin Mohammad stated that the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iraq consistently supports their activities and expressed that this meeting will contribute to the development of Azerbaijani-Kirkuk relations.
During the meeting, issues and proposals were also discussed regarding staff exchange, doctoral training, organizing joint conferences, publishing mutual articles, and scientific referencing.
Kirkuk researcher Ali Hussein Bayatly and Doctor of science Savash Khurmuzlu, also presented information about their scientific activities.
At the end, mutual gifts were exchanged and a commemorative photo was taken.
The meeting was also attended by Head of the Department of Foreign Relations and International Organizations at the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in biology, docent Esmira Alirzayeva, Head of the Department of Public Relations, Press, and Information at the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in philology Agahuseyn Shukurov and Head of the Department of the Philosophy and Sociology Institute, Doctor of Philosophy Fuzuli Gurbanov.
