Martyrs of January 20 tragedy commemorated at the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry

Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences held the event devoted to the 20 January.

At the ceremony, members of the Institute commemorated with a minute of silence the memory of Martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country.

The event was opened by the Academician- Secretary of the Department of Chemical Sciences, Director of the Institute, Academician Dilgam Tagıyev, who spoke about the crimes committed by military units of the Soviet empire against the civilian population - our compatriots who have risen to fight for the independence and freedom of Azerbaijan in January 1990.

Academician said that, the tragedy of 20 January was a consequence of the aggression against the national dignity and national freedom of our people.

Making this tragedy, the totalitarian Soviet regime demonstrated to the world the essence of his crime once again.

We mark January 20 as a National Mourning Day, but at the same time remember that night with a sense of pride. On that night the people of Azerbaijan declared whole world its invincibility and heroism, devotion to the motherland and the struggle for freedom.

This tragedy has been legally estimated by national leader Heydar Aliyev for the first time.

At the event also acted the chairman of Trade Union Organization of the Institute, Professor Arif Efendi, Chairman of Council of Young Scientists and Specialists, PhD in Chemistry Faig Mammadov, leading researchers Namig Ismayilov and Zohrab Hasanli and young researcher Amelia Asadzadeh, who stressed that the memory of the martyrs of the Black January will live forever.
