Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

In accordance with order of head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev “On the Action Plan of marking 26th anniversary of January 20 tragedy”, ANAS marks anniversary event in a wide of range.

ANAS Institute of Manuscripts named after Mahammad Fuzuli held scientific session devoted to January 20.

In the session, Deputy Director of the scientific venture, Dr. Philology Aybeniz Aliyeva-Kangarli, scientific secretary Azizaga Najafzadeh reported and stated that, January 20 tragedy engraved forever to our history.

Participant of the January 20 events, PhD in Philology Akram Bagirov told about horrors of bloody massacre.

Then, documentary “Peak of martyrdom” was displayed.

Event attendees were acquainted with book exhibition about martyrs of January 20.

ANAS Huseyn Javid’s Memorial Flat held commemorative event dubbed “Bloody January page of our memory”.

In the event, was noted that January 20 is one of the honorable pages of struggling for freedom and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan people.

Information blockade of Azerbaijan on those times was prevented thanked to national leader Heydar Aliyev. He was living in Moscow at that time, so risked himself and family, he came to Permanent Consulate of Azerbaijan to Moscow and supported the people. Strongly condemning massacre in Baku, Heydar Aliyev for the first time delivered to the world truths about January 20.

Museum organized traditional and virtual exhibition “January page of our memory” as well.

National Museum of Azerbaijan History commemorated victims of January 20.

Event co-organized by Knowledge Fund under President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was attended by scientists, students and public representatives.

Firstly, film devoted to Black January was displayed.

Director of the museum, Academician Naila Valikhanli  dealt with January 20 tragedy and noted that army of the empire committed terrible killings in Baku city, including other town and regions of the country at night from January 19 to 20.

Administration head of Knowledge Fund Isakhan Veliyev spoke on role of January 20 in an independence history of Azerbaijan. He brought to mind that tragedy gained legal-political assessment at initiative of Heydar Aliyev.

Later on, students performed literary-artistic composition on January 20, association members of State Children Philharmonic showed handmade.

In the commemorative event of the Institute of Philosophy and Law, Director of the institute, Dr. Philosophy Ilham Mammadzadeh made speech on heroism of killed martyrs for sake of national independence and freedom on January 20.

Stated that, as our people sharply manifested their emotions related to act of terrorism committed by the Soviet army in first few years, after a period of time analysis of the events were put to the fore and investigating the causes of tragedy kicked off.

Deputy Director of the institute Gabil Jamalov, Dr. Philosophy F.Gurbanov, Professor Isakhan Veliyev, Dr. Philosophy Ali Abbasov, Dr. Philosophy Refige Azimova, PhD in Law Khalig Ahmadzadeh and others appraised January 20 not as just a tragedy, but also as an awakening of a people.
