The event dedicated to the 230th anniversary of Abbasgulu agha Bakikhanov, a prominent Azerbaijani scientist, a great thinker, a talented poet and a translator was held at the Institute of Manuscripts of ANAS named after Mahammad Fuzuli.
The event was opened with a welcoming speech by the director of the institute, Academician Teymur Karimli. He emphasized the significance of the event held in the framework of A.A. Bakikhanov’s 230th anniversary. In his speech, Academician Teymur Karimli spoke about the scientific contributions of Abbasgulu agha Bakikhanov, who had encyclopedic knowledge, his invaluable role in the development of Azerbaijani historiography and gave the floor to the presenters for their speeches.
Naila Samadova, Doctor of philology and head of the Department for the Study of Personal Archives of the Institute and the employees of the department reported on the life and work of Abbasgulu agha Bakikhanov, his books and personal archival materials preserved in the institute’s collection, and presented poems by him.
Following this, Tahira Hasanzadeh, Doctor of historical sciences and senior researcher, Zakiyya Abilova, Doctor of philosophy, docent and senior researcher and Irada Vazirova, senior researcher of the Institute made speeches at the event regarding the reports on the prominent figure.
At the end, the event participants visited the exhibition hall of the institute, to view the exhibition titled “Abbasgulu agha Bakikhanov – 230”, prepared by the Department of Scientific Exposition and Presentation of Manuscripts. The exhibition showcased manuscripts of works by Abbasgulu agha Bakikhanov, reflecting his artistic heritage and poetry, related to philosophy, history, geography, logic, and various other scientific fields in Azerbaijani, Turkish, Arabic, and other languages. The displays also included the poet’s early printed books, personal and historical documents.
