Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On January 21, notable historian-scientist, chairman of Nakhchivan Department of ANAS, Honored Scientist, Academician Ismayil Mukhtar oglu Hajiyev is 65 years old.

Ismayil Hajiyev was born in Khanaga village (present Khanegah), Julfa region, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in 1951. In 1974 graduated from Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute (present ASPU) department of History with diploma of honor.

In 1992, he gained PhD in History, doctor of science in History (1999) and title of professor in 2004. In 2003 elected active member of ANAS.

Beginning for labor activity as a teacher at Khoshkeshin village school in Julfa region in 1974, Ismayil Hajiyev worked in Nakhchivan State Pedagogical Institute (present NSU) in the posts of teacher, deputy dean, vice chancellor of science, and vice chancellor of educational affairs since 1978. He was elected chairman of Nakhchivan Department of ANAS and member of Presidium of ANAS in 2003.

His scientific activity embraces the issues of national leader Heydar Aliyev's political and statehood policy, the place and role of Nakhchivan in the national statehood history of Azerbaijan, the relationship between the People Republic of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan, history of Araz-Turk republic, socio-political and cultural life of Azerbaijan in 1941-1945 war, territorial fate, socio-economic history, historical, cultural development, and outstanding graduates of Nakhchivan region,  Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan, including bloody crimes, committed genocides, ancient lost lands of Azerbaijan.

I.Hajiyev is the author of 32 books and nearly 350 scientific articles. By his supervisory and authorship have been published general and fundamental works, encyclopedias, atlases: Nakhchivan Encyclopedia (2 volumes), Encyclopedia of Nakhchivan Monuments (in Azerbaijan and English languages), Historical Atlas of Nakhchivan and Nakhchivan history (3 volumes).

Academician also supervised to 24 PhDs and doctor of science.

Scientist is the member of National Encyclopedia and Awards Committee. In addition, chairman to the Defense Council attached to Nakhchivan Department of ANAS, and editor-in-chief of "News" journal of the latter organization.

In 2000, was elected MP to the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2010.

Historian-scientist was awarded the Honoured Scientist (2009), Prize of Y.Mammadaliyev, “Man of the year” by Biography Institute of U.S., Honorary decrees of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR, Presidium of ANAS and Ministry of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic.
