Today main building of ANAS hosted for farewell ceremony of notable Azerbaijan scientist, social figure, prominent representative of biology and agrarian sciences in the country, Honored Scientist with order “Sharaf”, active member of ANAS Jalal Aliyev.

Ceremony was attended by governmental officials, MPs, scientific and art figures, dignity and public representatives.

Wreath was put in front of deceased’s funeral on behalf of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Funeral was surrounded by wreathes on behalf of governmental organizations and various staffs.

Funeral speech opened by President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh and he spoke on efficient activity, his exceptional merits in biological and agrarian sciences. 

65 years of dynamic research of Professor Jalal Aliyev has been devoted to the study of the theory of photosynthetic activity as a fundamental process behind the productivity of crop plants. His research has focused mainly on a very important crop: wheat. His research has focused on an integrative approach that involved physiological, biophysical, biochemical, and molecular-genetic bases of plant productivity, as well as on the production at the levels of structural-functional organization of plants - from molecular to the whole plant and field. On these ground the following can be underlined.

The scientific principles determining productivity and high-yield capacity of “ideal” type of wheat were developed, CO2 exchange of plants was investigated in sowings and a wide range of variability of carbonic acid assimilation depending upon the morphophysiological attributes of genotypes and their donor-acceptor relations was established, carbon metabolism, transport and distribution of assimilates formed in both leaves and ear of contrast genotypes using 14CO2 were studied and important role of separate organs in grain filling was confirmed.

Structural-molecular organization of chloroplast photochemical systems was studied and the model of topography of pigment-protein complexes in thylakoid membrane was suggested.

Head of ANAS noted that, Academician Jalal Aliyev supervised over 300 scientific staff. 85 of them are PhDs, 11 of Doctor of sciences.

Academicians Ahliman Amiraslanov, Boyukkishi Agayev, Maharram Babayev, corresponding member of ANAS Valida Ali-zadeh reported in the funeral ceremony and expressed their deep condolences to deceased’s family.

Reporting on behalf of scientist’s students, corresponding member of ANAS Ibrahim Azizov stated that J. Aliyev is one of the the happiest scientists who was able to deliver his deep knowledge and rich experience to further generations.

Then, scientist’ funeral was taken to the last destination. Deceased will be buried in the 1st Alley of Honor.

Jalal Aliyev will always live in the hearts of the people who knew him.
