“Khojaly: Last tragedy of genocide history” conference held

International Press Center held conference “Khojaly: Last tragedy of genocide history” devoted to 24th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy on February 24.

Event co-organized by ANAS Institute of History, “Moral development of the youth” Public Union and “Azerbaijan historians” Public Union.

Reporting in the event, director of the Institute of History, corresponding member of ANAS Yagub Mahmudov spoke about emerging causes and bitter consequences of Khojaly tragedy. Noted that, the unprecedented genocide committed by armed military units of the USSR's 366th regiment, was directed not only Azerbaijan, but also against to whole mankind. Hundreds of unarmed people – the old, young, children, women, unprecedented civilians were killed, houses burnt down, and the city was razed to the ground.

It was stated that, former government of Azerbaijan neither help to the population of Khojaly in an unequal battle with armed military units and the Armenian separatists, nor even report about the crime. Only after national leader Heydar Aliyev's return to power at the request of the nation, this horrible crime was assessed at the state level.

In the conference were listened lectures on "Mass of massacres committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in the Caucasus in 1905-1906", "Genocide of Azerbaijanis in Irevan province in 1918-1920", "Genocide of Azerbaijanis in Karabakh region of Azerbaijan in 1918-1920", "Turkish-Muslim genocide in Baku province", “Genocides against Turkish-Muslim population committed by Armenians in the Eastern Anatolia, Nakhchivan and Irevan regions in 1917-1920”, “Genocide of Azerbaijanis in Zangezur region (1918-1920-years)", “Khojaly genocide is a sequel of genocide committed against Azerbaijani in March, 1918", “1917-1920 years of genocide committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in Irevan in Turkey archives”.
