On March 1, “Karabakh carpet-weaving history” book in Azerbaijani, Russian and English languages by head of “Azer-Ilme” Carpet-weaving Center, Honored Scientist PhD in History Vidadi Muradov was presented at the main building of ANAS.
Opening the event Vice-President of ANAS Academician Isa Habibbayli spoke about the edition dealing with history of Karabakh carpet-weaving school. Azerbaijan carpet-weaving traditions are protected and art of weaving lives its new development era. Besides government, Heydar Aliyev Foundation carries out works in this area as well. Publication of “Azerbaijan carpets” bulk, projects in promoting Azerbaijan carpet-weaving art in the whole world are consistent parts of these activities, he noted.
Isa Habibbayli noted that the proposed book is a fundamental sequel of project "Azerbaijani carpets in all groups". Book reviews historical development of Karabakh, the general characteristics of carpets, carpets, carpet merchants including, informs on dyers and presents photos, deals with carpet samples and semantics of the elements referring to them.
Book co-projected by ANAS and the Center carpet-weaving "Azer-Ilme" reflectes expedition materials, encompassing 378 carpet-weaving points, Agjabedi, Aghdam, Barda, Beylagan, Fizuli, Jabrail, Gubadli, Shusha, Kalbajar, Lachin, Khankendi, Agdere, Zangilan, Khojali, Khojavend, Terter regions which are included in the Karabakh region. The book includes essays on the administrative, political, ethnic and socio-economic history of the region, as well as the history of carpet weaving, the main characters, reflected in the carpets woven here. Colored photos of 415 pile carpets and rugs of XIX-XX centuries feature the diversity of art and artistic style of Karabakh carpets.
Addressing the meeting, Academicians Teymur Bunyadov, Rafael Huseynov, corresponding member of ANAS Yagub Mahmudov and others praised the new publication dedicated to the history of the Karabakh carpet weaving. In the speeches, it was noted, thanks to the attention and care of the state, art of carpet – weaving, which is our national and spiritual heritage, is protected, alive and growing. Merits of the First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva have been appraised in this sphere.
In closing, the author of the book, PhD in history Vidadi Muradov expressed his gratitude to the organizers and participants of the event, as well as those who had contributed to the publication of the book.
