All-republic scientific seminar on the geothermal model of Samukh region basing on oil-field data was held at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS.

Associate of The State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources Dr. Geology Rasim Aliyev delivered a lecture in the event chaired by Deputy Director of Science of the mentioned institute, Dr. Geology-mineralogy Dadash Huseynov. R.Aliyev said that the thermal waters in the country involves to surface by natural way or drilling of oil-gas wells. In many countries around the world are taken advantage of having alternative energy from thermal waters. Scientist noted that the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy has done some fulfillments in this direction in accordance with the development strategy of our country.

Dozens of oil and gas wells have been drilled in a few areas from north-west to south-east directions of Samukh region (Molladag, Aydinli, Palantoken, Tersdeller), but due to lack of importance of caring works were suspended there. Structural maps, geological profiles were drawn up through using data obtained from geophysical surveys of drilled oil-field wells. As a result of calculations of the geothermal gradient, which is known as another source, geothermal 3D model of the region has been designed, noted lecturer.

R.Aliyev added that the lack of data and access to the drilling of other wells makes unavailable to improve the model. Potential of lithogeothermal energy has been figured according to stratigraphic layers and defined potential for alternative energy. It was observed that the specific heat of the rocks, and other options allow taking up 80-85% of the information content of the results.

The report aroused great interest on the participants of the seminar, questions responded.
