The 1st International Symposium on Traditional Music and Cultural Identity of the Turkic World is of great importance for understanding the spiritual memory, self-awareness, and cultural continuity of our peoples.
This was stated by Fakhraddin Hajiyev, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Chief of Staff of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, as he delivered the message addressed to the event by the Foundation’s President, Aktoty Raimkulova, during the 1st International Symposium on Traditional Music and Cultural Identity of the Turkic World.
He noted that this scientific platform, organized by the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, plays a crucial role in studying the cultural heritage and traditional music of the Turkic world.
Fakhraddin Hajiyev emphasized that “in the centuries-old cultural heritage of the Turkic peoples, music is not merely a form of art, but also a bearer of identity, a guardian of memory, and a bridge connecting generations.” He stressed that Azerbaijani mugham, ashiq art, folk melodies, and national performance traditions resonate with similar musical codes found across all corners of the Turkic world.
Speaking about the Foundation’s areas of activity, Fakhraddin Hajiyev stated that the main mission of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation is to study, preserve, and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Turkic world at the international level. Research on traditional musical lineages, their digitization and archiving, building connections between generations of performers, and increasing young people’s interest in this heritage are among the Foundation’s priority directions.
He also spoke about the international cooperation between the Institute of Folklore and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation that has developed over the past year, providing information on joint projects implemented and underscoring the importance of the existing partnership.
The scholar expressed confidence that the symposium will create opportunities for scientific exchange of ideas, the study of the cultural and social functions of traditional music, and the formation of new research directions.
Expressing his gratitude to the Institute of Folklore for organizing the event, Fakhraddin Hajiyev stressed that such initiatives serving Turkic culture strengthen our unity and further reinforce our national identity.
