On January 21, at the National Library, a presentation ceremony was held for the collection of books by Honored Scientist, Academic Ismayil Hajiyev, head of the Nakhchivan Branch of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), as well as the traditional and electronic book exhibitions titled “Academic Ismayil Hajiyev.”
At the event, the Director of the National Library, Professor Karim Tahirov, spoke about Ismayil Hajiyev’s multifaceted contributions. He noted that the researcher and scholar, author of countless scientific works and chronicler of the history of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, had donated more than 170 of his books to the National Library. Tahirov emphasized that this contribution not only significantly enriched the Library’s collection but also ensured the preservation and study of these valuable works for future generations. He further highlighted Hajiyev’s role in mentoring numerous historians, pointing out that most of those present in the hall were his students or protégés.
The President of ANAS, Academic Isa Habibbeyli, stated that this presentation at the National Library marked Ismayil Hajiyev’s first book presentation. He emphasized that the main theme in Hajiyev’s books and articles is the ideology of Azerbaijani national statehood. Habibbeyli noted that Hajiyev’s historiographical approach presents historical facts and real events analytically and chronologically. He specifically highlighted Hajiyev’s research on the Nakhchivan period of National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s activities, noting that these works have become extremely valuable sources today. The ANAS President also pointed out that through his works, Hajiyev has contributed numerous documents and archival materials to the scientific community, and that his research aligns with state policies and scholarly requirements. He praised Hajiyev’s objective stance on historical figures, particularly in his books on Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev, and wished him continued success.
The Director of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, Academic Naila Valikhanli, remarked that there is scarcely a page of history from ancient times to the present that Hajiyev has not studied analytically, honestly, thoroughly, and with comparative, rich sources. She noted that his meticulous examination of these sources has made all of Hajiyev’s research a significant contribution to Azerbaijani historiography.
During the event, the electronic exhibition titled “Academic Ismayil Hajiyev” was also presented.
Bakhtiyar Asgarov, Head of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic’s Permanent Representation in Baku, emphasized that Hajiyev exemplifies simplicity and humanity in Azerbaijan. On behalf of the Permanent Representation, he wished Hajiyev even greater success in his future endeavors.
Professor Karim Shukurov, Director of the ANAS Institute of History and Ethnography named after A.A. Bakikhanov, noted that Ismayil Hajiyev has reached the pinnacle of contemporary historiography under the influence of the historical environment in which he was raised. Highlighting the uniqueness of Nakhchivan’s history, he expressed gratitude to Hajiyev for producing new and fundamental works in this field.
Speakers including Fazil Mustafa, Chairman of the National Assembly Committee; Ibrahim Zeynalov, Dean of the History Faculty at Baku State University; Academic Teymur Kerimli, Director of the ANAS M. Fuzuli Institute of Manuscripts; Doctor of History Abbas Seyidov; Sara Azimova, Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper “Sharq Qapisi”; Doctor of History Eynulla Madatli, Deputy Director of the ANAS Institute of Philosophy and Sociology; and Honored Journalist Tahir Aydinoglu spoke about Hajiyev’s scientific creativity as well as his active role in the country’s socio-political life. Family members, friends, students, and colleagues shared fond memories and wished Hajiyev good health, new achievements, and continued contributions to the enrichment of Azerbaijani science.
At the end of the event, Academic Ismayil Hajiyev expressed his gratitude to the National Library, his native institution, for organizing the event at a high standard, to its excellent and professional staff, and to all participants.
