The opening ceremony of the Republican Olympiad in computer science among university students, dedicated to May 17 - World Day of Telecommunications and Information Society was carried out. Competition is organized by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Ministry of Education and the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Ministry of Education and the University of "Gafgaz".

It was noted that the purpose of the Olympiad - raising the level of knowledge of students of higher educational institutions in the field of computer science, programming, the growing interest in this area, as well as the involvement of international Olympiads students who were winners in this sphere.

The Olympiad is held in two stages. Before the start of the first stage, for one month on the site of the Olympiad is held in registration teams representing higher education institutions of the republic. Teams consisting of one teacher (as a leader) and three students who have registered are entitled to participate in the first stage of the Olympiad. The first stage of the Olympiad allowed 4 teams from each university.

Over the past 9 years, an annual average of 40-50 teams from 10-15 higher education institutions (150-200 members) fell for the first phase of the Olympiad.

This year, 55 teams from 22 universities of the country have been registered on site www.olimpiada.az to participate in the competition.

Along with the students studying in the capital's universities, this year a special interest is showed by the state university students of Nakhchivan, Ganja, Mingachevir, Sumgayit and Azerbaijan Technological University.

Note that, deadline for registration in the competition ended April 11, 2016.

The contest is for ACM / ICPC rules (International Olympiad in computer science among students of higher educational institutions instruction) and IOI (International Olympiad in computer science among schoolchildren) through www.e-olymp.com/az/ site. According to the terms of the competition, only one team from each institution, which showed the highest score, wins a ticket to the final stage of the Olympiad. Finally, 4 best teams will be declared winners.

The next stage (final) of the Olympiad will be held on 30 April.

The winners will be awarded prizes from HP, Nar and Caspian Telekom, as well as diplomas and diplomas of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies.
