ANAS Nakhchivan Department hosted scientific conference on "The writer-publicist and pedagogue Eynali bey Sultanov"

ANAS Nakhchivan Department jointly organized with Nakhchivan State University, "Nakhchivan" University, Nakhchivan Institute of Teachers, has held a scientific conference devoted to the 150th anniversary of Eynali bey Sultanov. The event was opened by chairman of the Department, Academician Ismayil Hajiyev. Academician noted that, the order of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Autonomous Republic "On holding the 150th anniversary of Eynali bey Sultanov" dated February 15, 2016, the anniversary of outstanding writer is widely celebrated in the autonomous republic. Eynali bey Sultanov was born on May 5, 1866 in Nakhchivan. In 1882 he organized "Society of intellectuals" in his house and attracted all progressive- minded individuals such as Pasha Aga Sultanov, Mirza Jalil Mirzayev (Shurbi), Mirza Alakbar Khalilov, Azad Aga Kengerli, Gurbanali Sharifov, Bakhshali Aga Shahtakhly, Nasrullah Sheykhov and others.

It has been noted that, in this society the social and political issues and issues connected with freedom of women were discussed, decided the opening of new schools, libraries, carried out scientific and literary polemics. Here were reading and translating the works of prominent Russian writers and poets such as Alexander Pushkin, Lev Tolstoy, Belinsky, Dobrolyubov, and were carried out scientific controversy over their thoughts. His literary career has began with the play "Tatarka” ("Azarbaijan gızı") in the 80 years of XIX century, and was published in a book form in 1904, in Irevan.

Devoted to freedom of women, this piece is a valuable work, reflecting alien attitude to a woman, as well as ways out of this situation.

In addition to, Eyneli bey Sultanov has written plays, stories and poems such as “Atalig”, “Sahhat-verirsen, vermirsen”, and exposure of ignorance, promotion of enlightenment ideas, description of folklore motives and national-spiritual values were reflected on them. Eyneli bey Sultanov has collected materials of Nakhchivan folklore and written article and reviews to the works of his contemporaries.

Writer-publicist was engaged in translation in different times, has translated following: Mirze Fatali Akhundzadeh’s comedies “Molla Ibrahimkhalil kimyager” and “Haji Gara”, patterns from Sadi’s book “Gulustan”, public-spirited couplet by Baba Tahir “Allah insan mehkemesi garsisinda”, Maksim Gorki “Hayatdan lovheler”, Vladimir Mayakovski’s poem “Baku”, Krilov’s fable “A fox and a grape” into the Azerbaijani language.

Conference was attended by researcher of the Institute of Art, Language and Literature of Nakhchivan Branch of ANAS Elkhan Yurdoglu, who delivered a lecture on “Life and creativity way of Eyneli bey Sultanov”, dean of the Nakhchivan State University Assoc. Prof. Iman Jafarov on “Eyneli bey Sultanov and “Molla Nasraddin” literary school”, chief department at the Institute of Art, Language and Literature Assoc. Prof. Akram Huseynov “Eyneli bey Sultanov and folklore”, Assoc. Prof at “Nakhchivan” University Nurlana Aliyeva “Eyneli bey Sultanov as a contemporary of Mahammadtaghi Sidgi”.
