ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics held a meeting of the Department of Earth Sciences (DES) on May 18.
The event was attended by members of the Department, director of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Institute of Geography and the Republican Seismological Survey Center, deputy directors on scientific work and scientific secretaries.
First, corresponding member of ANAS Chingiz Aliyev delivered a paper on "The role of geological factors in the spread of radon in open and closed spaces."
It was informed that, the report is reflected technique for determining the concentration of radon in an enclosed space and the environment in Azerbaijan, a description of the statistical processing of the results.
The speaker has noted that, concentration of radon in the closed space changes over a wide range. The measures which are carried out in Azerbaijan are shown that only 7% are higher than norm. According to the scientist, for the first time in buildings on the basis of the obtained data were drawn up maps of radon volume activity and high concentration of radon.
High radon assessment coincides with the deep faults in seismic zones of mountain.
The measured concentrations of radon in buildings are related to the results of measurements carried out on the ground, in the mineral and thermal waters, mud volcanoes. It is possible to come to the conclusion that, high ratings of radon in residential buildings are natural.
There was exchange of views on the report, were respondent to questions.
At the meeting was delivered final report on the "Palynology of oil of the western board of the South Caspian basin" project, which became the winner of contest of SOCAR Science Foundation in 2014, as well as the issues concerning the preparation of neo-tectonic map of the Caucasus, including the issues of business trips of employees of ANAS Republican Seismological Survey Center to the National Laboratory after E.Lourens, U.S, Berkeley University, Missouri Scientific-Technology University. Suggestions and recommendations were announced.
