Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

On May 26, “Azerbaijan People Republic. 1918-1920” hall was opened to the permanent exposition of the National Museum of Azerbaijan History in a new structure.

At the opening ceremony, director of the museum Academician Naila Valikhanli informed on the hall and stated that, fundamental changes have been made due to even more substantial and detailed featuring of the first republic in the Muslim East.

Vice-President of ANAS Academician Isa Habibbeyli highly appreciated the establishment of democratic republic in Azerbaijan at the beginning of the XX century, while universal concepts such as freedom and democracy were new for the international arena. He stressed the need of delivering events happened in the years of 1918-1920 to the further generations.

Dr. History Solmaz Rustamova-Tohidi briefed about the history of the first republic of the Muslim East 98 years ago – Azerbaijan People Republic and said that, having had short but honorable way this independent state left an indelible mark in the memory of our people.

Later on, guests were familiar with an exposition in a new structure.

The hall consists of two rooms dubbed “Establishment of Azerbaijan People Republic and Caucasus Islamic Army” and “Activity of Azerbaijan People Republic”.

The first room features the declaration of independence, creation of Caucasus Islamic Army and its activity, including activity of the republic in Ganja.

While the second room features activities of the Parliament and government of the Azerbaijan People Republic, economy, culture, education development, army-building, foreign and domestic political issues of the country in the beginning of the 1918-1920.

Among the nearly 150 historical artifacts displayed here; a copy of Independence Declamation of Azerbaijan in Paris, 1919, weapons, equipment and other items of the Azerbaijanian and Turkish soldier and officers of the Caucasian Islamic Army, Republican leaders' personal belongings, decisions made by the parliamentary republic and government in 1918-1920 and Azerbaijan flag prepared by Muhammad Amin Rasulzadeh during his emigration, caused of great interest among visitors.
