Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

On May 26, Scientists’ House of ANAS held a meeting with the first Vice-President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, State Laureate with orders “Istiglal”, “Shohrat” and “Sharaf” - Academician Khoshbakht Yusifzadeh.

Opening the meeting President of ANAS Academician Akif Alizadeh stressed out the importance of the meeting, which aimed to closely recognize a notable oilman-scientist Academician Khoshbakht Yusifzadeh.

Making speech on life and activity of the scientist who had vital merits in development of Azerbaijan oil industry A.Alizadeh noted that, geologist-scientist’s autobiography in fact, is the most interesting story on the oil epopee of Azerbaijan.

Head of ANAS told about academician’s scientific achievements, oil strategy, commencing since 1994 supervised by national leader Heydar Aliyev, signing of the “Contract of the Century”, including discovering and processing of several oil fields with the participation of Kh.Yusifzadeh. As a result of numerous advanced methods, 20 of oil and gas-condensate fields have been discovered by management of Kh.Yusifzadeh. Here include; “Bahar”, “Sangachal-Deniz”, “Duvvani-Deniz”, “Khere-Zire island”, “Khere-Zire-Deniz”, “Guneshli”, “Chirag”, “Azeri”, “Kepez”, “Shah Deniz” and other beds in Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea. Revealing of beds “Guneshli”, “Chirag”, “Azeri” by the scientist have provided further progress of Azerbaijan in a modern era. Meanwhile, Mr. Yusifzadeh can be considered a live encyclopedia of oil-gas industry of Azerbaijan.

Scientist’s activity was highly appreciated by the government and he was deserved to the numerous prizes.

Then, Academician Khoshbakht Yusifzadeh spoke about oil history of Azerbaijan, main points of “Contract of the Century”, negotiations via foreign companies, agreements signed, as well as benefits of national leader Heydar Aliyev’s oil strategy. Underlining the difficult situation in the country on the eve of “Contract of the Century”, national leader who came to power for the second time was closely engaged in oil industry. Talking about Heydar Aliyev's contribution to the development of this area, academician analyzed the economic and political aspects of the "Contract of the Century".

Today, President Ilham Aliyev successfully continues oil-gas strategy, which founded with the “Contract of the Century”. Having devoted 63 years of his life to the development of oil science and industry in Azerbaijan, Academician stressed out that every success and achievement bases on labor.

Academician Kh.Yusifzadeh thanked to ANAS management for organization of this meeting.

At the event, rector of Baku Higher Oil School Elmar Gasimov also made speech on performance and historical merits of live legend of Azerbaijan oil industry – Khosbakht Yusifzadeh.

In closing, a documentary devoted to Khosbakht Yusifzadeh was displayed.
