On June 24, the Azerbaijani State Academic National Drama Theatre held an event devoted to the 100th anniversary of the first performance of “Oluler” (The Dead) play by great man-of-letter Jalil Mammadguluzadeh and a tragicomedy was featured with a new performance.

The event co-organzied by Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi and aforementioned theatre brought together MPs, celebrate scientific and cultural dignity, including representatives of theatre public.

The director of the theater, performance and art director of the play People's Artist Azerpasha Nemat stated that, famous tragicomedy "Oluler” included to the list of classic examples of world drama according to its artistic features. Having written in 1909, the play is a pearl of perfect art due to idea originality, richness of plot, a wealth of artistic aids and genre features.

It was emphasized that the first performance of “Oluler” took place in Baku on 29 April 1916,at the Tagiyev theater. Since the staging "Oluler” aroused great interest.

Azerpasha Nemat said that the new performance has been created by offer of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of AR. The music composed by well-known composer, USSR People's Artist Gara Garayev for "Oluler” has been specifically elobarted for the symphonic orchestra in a new play. Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli is a performer of the music.

Today, “Oluler” will be presented with a new performance. This tragicomedy is worth to juxtapose by the world's most perfect dramas. If the work will be translated into world languages, it will cause great interest and lead the people to re-think about life and death. Over the last 100 years, there is no second play like “Oluler”, positioning in the repertuaire of the national theatres, stressed out scientific advisor of the play, Vice-President of ANAS director of the Institute of Literature Academician Isa Habibbeyli.

Academician noted that, comism in a play “Oluler” is a profit of the deep social discrepancies concerning the fate of a people, a irreconcilable contradiction between dead cognition and intellect, mental blindness and vigilance, extreme prejudice and fanaticism, inlcuding reality and mysticism.

It was noted that for the first time the role of Isgandar was performed by Mirzaga Aliyev, while the role of Sheikh Nasrallah was given to Aligulu Najafov. The play has achieved a great success. Spectacle, featuring for the first time on April 29, 1916 in Baku, then was featured at "Colosseum" theater (in Uzbek language) in Tashkend (June, same year), at the city theater in Makhachkala in July, while in Vladikavkaz (August), staged in Tbilisi, Ganja, Nakhchivan and other cities in 1917 and won great success.

Great man-of-letters Sultan Majid Ganizadeh, Huseyn Javid, Nariman Narimanov, Najaf bey Vezirov, Uzeyir Hajibeyov and others who overlooked this spectacle expressed precious opinions.

National leader Heydar Aliyev always cared for Azerbaijan culture and highly appreciated tragiccomedy “Oluler”.

Then, play with a new performance was demonstarted.

Colorful decorations were prepared for the performance which staged tastefully. This time, Sheikh Nasrullah of “Olular” was performed by People’s Artist Nuraddin Mehdikhanlı, and Kefli Isgandar - the actor Anar Heybatov.

Note that the proposed new performance of the play "Olular" is devoted to the 100th anniversary of first staging of the play by Huseyn Arablinski 1916, 50th anniversary of staging by Tofig Kazimov in 1966, and 60th anniversary of People's artist Nureddin Mehdikhanli.
