Archaeological studies carried by U.S. and French scientists joint with Nakhcivan scientists on the territory of Nakhchivan, are of importance not only to study our ancient history but also its promotion in the world.

These opinions were sounded by chairman of Nakhchivan Division of ANAS Academician Ismayil Hajiyev at the meeting devoted to the results of studies carried out by archeological expeditions of Azerbaijan-France, Azerbaijan-America and Nakhchivan Division of ANAS.

Academician stated that, monuments, which were discovered in Nakhchivan during latest years, prove that, Nakhchivan has been a cradle of civilization in various years throughout the history. Archaeological researches by “Kharaba Gilan” expedition of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography on the territory of Ordubad as well as results obtained by Azerbaijan-USA, Azerbaijan-France, and ANAS Nakhchivan Division show the richness of this territory from viewpoint of archeology.

At the report meeting, Azerbaijani chief of Azerbaijan-French archaeological expedition, corresponding member of ANAS Veli Bakhshaliyev informed the scientific public about excavated areas during this year, discovered artifacts and results via slides. He noted that, coming across to graveyard in the lower strata of settlement Giz Galasi is pretty interesting. Directly, in the vicinity of this settlement were discovered painted plates specific to an early stage of Middle Bronze Age in one of these tombs.

It was determined the presence of 2.5-3 meter thick cultural layer dated back to Middle Bronze Age in the above-mentioned settlement. This is fourth important monument in Nakhchivan after Kultepe I, Kultepe II, and Gizilburun. In August 2016, the French National Research Center joint with archaeologists of Nakhchivan Division began research work in the settlement Kultepe I. The main objective of the expedition, which belongs to the end of Neolithic era, is to study the settlement date in Kultepe I and relations of Nakhchivan habitants with the outside world.
