Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

ANAS Folklore Institute hosted a scientific conference "Folklore and statehood" on October 18.

The event was organized in connection with the execution of the order of President Ilham Aliyev "On the 25th anniversary of the restoration of Azerbaijan’s state independence".

At the conference, Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that, the restoration of national statehood traditions is a significant event of the new stage in the history of Azerbaijani statehood - independence period.

Precisely,the restoration of national statehood contributed to the development of national culture and spiritual values, learning different areas of science.

Noting that, as one of the early founders of the national statehood ideas in favor folklore, Academician stressed that this area of science is a treasure house of our national and spiritual values and national identity. Nationwide ideas, as well as ideas of national statehood were reflected in a variety of genres of folklore.

Told about features of the development and scientific problems of the Azerbaijani folklore in the period of independence, I.Habibbeyli noted that, the main purpose of the organization of the conference is to raise attention to the history of traditions of statehood of Azerbaijan and the analysis of the moral issues, implemented in folklore.

At the event, Academic-Secretary of the Division of Human Sciences, Academician Teymur Karimli, acting Academician-Secretary of the Devision of Social Sciences, corresponding member of ANAS Nargiz Akhundova, Director of the Folklore Institute, corresponding member of ANAS Mukhtar Imanov told about the history and folklore of the importance of this branch of science in the modern period.

It has been said that, the idea of statehood appeared in folklore before our era, and reflected in the myths. Also it was included to the literature of subsequent periods. Based on the ideas of data epos "Kitabi-Dede Gorgud" is an artistic example of statehood.

During the conference following papers were presented on "Political Heydar Aliyev's course and folklore", "Actual problems of Azerbaijani folklore in the period of independence", "Azerbaijani folklore in the context of Turkic folklore", "Azerbaijani emigrant folklore in modern science", "Symbols in the traditions of Turkic statehood".
