Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

On November 15, at the ANAS Presidium, Round Hall began its work the scientific conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry after Academician M.Naghiyev.

The event was attended by prominent scientists and experts of the republic in the field of chemistry, state officials, members of the Department of Chemical Sciences of ANAS and representatives of Mass Media.

Opening the anniversary event, President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh spoke about the valuable contribution made by the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry at the Azerbaijani science in the period of its activity, has congratulated the staff of the Institute on the anniversary and wished success to the conference.

He noted that, Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry played a crucial role in the training of highly qualified personnel and the development of chemical science in Azerbaijan.

Then, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Chemical Sciences, Director of Institute, Academician Dilgam Taghiyev delivered a report on the history, development stages, research directions and achievements of the scientific establishment.

He noted that, Institute was established on the basis of branches of Chemistry and Applied Chemistry as part of the newly established Azerbaijan branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1935.

Invited in 1929 to Azerbaijan, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Konstantin Krasusky was the organizer and first director of the Institute of Chemistry.

In 1965, the Institute of Chemistry was renamed the Institute of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. On April 2014, under the provisions of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Presidium of ANAS, the name of the Institute was renamed as the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry after Academician M.Taghiyev.

Academician D.Taghiyev also informed about the deceased scientists who belong to the invaluable contribution to the development of the institute.

Speaking at the event, Rector of Baku State University, Academician Abel Maharramov, Academician-Secretary of the Ganja Devision, Academician Fuad Aliyev, Academic-Secretary Department of Earth Sciences, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, Rector of Ganja State University, Professor Yusif Yusibov, Director of the Institute of Petrochemical Processes, Academician Vagif Abbasov, Vice Rector of the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry, Associate Professor Gasim Mammadov and head of the Center for Nuclear Research, Academician Adil Garibov told about the multifaceted activities and the achievements of the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic chemistry for the 80-year development period.

The conference has continued the work in sections.

Results and the further prospects of the research works, which are carried out in the republic on chemical kinetics and a catalysis, chemical engineering and technologies and inorganic chemistry have been discussed and also were delivered reports on the the relevant sections.
