Institute of Archeology and Ethnography began studying the history of dyeing in Azerbaijan

Carpet study sector of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography has begun studying the history of dyeing in our country.

Research is being conducted under the supervision of the sector head, Professor Vidadi Muradov. The research work carried out on the basis of practical field materials, national and world scientific literature, take part in sector employees and experts of the corresponding branch of the Institute of ANAS.

Informing about the research, Professor Vidadi Muradov noted that despite the fact that the dyeing was used in all spheres of national arts and crafts, most of the areas of art, as well as in the food industry, it was associated with a particularly carpet weaving. It is impossible to imagine the Azerbaijani carpet weaving and dyeing separated from each other. Prospects for the development of this sphere in Azerbaijan were constantly in the spotlight of Imperial Russia. Natural dyes are produced here in the middle of the XIX century, along with the provision of domestic needs, also exported abroad.

According to the scientist, dyeing in Azerbaijan till the end of the XX century was able to maintain its position in areas with rich forest cover and developed horticultural farming. It was directly linked to the tradition of handmade carpet weaving in these regions. Because natural dye and manual labor were the main factors that characterize the originality of the national carpet.

Professor V.Muradov noted that the purpose of studying the history of dyeing business in our country is to study the history of dyeing traditions, prospects of development of the national dyeing business in our country and obtain practical results.

Note that, given the importance of preserving the traditions of the ancient art of carpet weaving in Azerbaijan, which was included in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, as well as bringing it to future generations, and promoting it on a large scale, President Ilham Aliyev signed an order for the purpose of ensure the organization of the V International symposium on Azerbaijani carpet in Baku. According to the order, prepare and implement an action plan for the organization of V International Symposium on Azerbaijani Carpet in October 2017 in Baku was entrusted to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaija, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the Open Joint Stock Company "Azerkhalcha".
