Today, Sheki Regional Scientific Center (SRSC) is one of the leading institutions of ANAS for its significant scientific results and innovative projects carried out. At present, about 90 scientific and technical employees work at the Center; 3 of them are doctors, 10 PhDs. Since the establishment of the Center so far, more than 200 scientific papers, over 40 books were published and 17 patents have been obtained.
On the establishment history of Sheki Regional Scientific Center
Sheki Zone Scientific Base was established within the Institute of Physics of the Academy by the decision of the Presidium of the USSR Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences in 1972. The purpose of this enterprise was to develop industry and agriculture of the Sheki-Zagatala economic region, and to increase efficiency by applying advanced achievements of science in production.
According to the next decision of the Presidium of the Academy in 1995, Sheki Zone Scientific Base was granted the status of Regional Scientific Center. Pursuant to the new Charter of ANAS in 2014, a new Charter of the Sheki Regional Research Center was adopted and registered at the Ministry of Justice on November 16, 2015. Accordingly, structural changes carried out at the Scientific Centre, laboratories were named department.
Key activities and achievements of the Center
Currently, 8 departments operate in SRSC. According to the activitity directions departments are named Landscape, Ecological geography, Plant biochemistry, Molecular biophysics, Mulberry silkworm breeding, Crop gene pool and biodiversity, Folklore and crafts, Historical heritage and Ethnography.
SRSC carries out research studies in following areas: geological hazard forecasting, medical geology, climate change, research of the destructive processes and desertification in Sheki-Zagatala Branch, medical and synthetic biology, effective absorption of electricity, transformation, integration and differentiation problems of agro systems of the different regions of Azerbaijan, protection of cultural, economic, historical, archeological and scientific heritage, its exploration, defection and systemizing.
Center has created 8-10% yield silk mulberry silkworm lines resistant to disease in over the last 5 years. The impact of bio-stimulators to mulberry silkworm productivity has been studied. Method of painting leather, wool products with a new natural dye has been proposed.
The creation of new varieties of apples and pears sorts, study the role of indicators in explore of polymetallic ore deposits, collection, research the region's folklore and creation of a museum of folklore are the most important measures carried out at the Center.
SRSC conducts scientific-technical cooperation with institutions and organizations of ANAS, the local structures of the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as international organizations
Sheki Regional Research Center in directions of research scientific activity carries out joint projects with a number of research institutions - Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Institute of Radiation Problems Institute of History, Institute of Genetic Resources, Institute of Botany, Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Institute of Folklore, Institute of Ethnography and Archaeology, Institute of Geography, Institute of Control Systems. Employees of SRSC take part in various international conferences and symposiums held abroad and in the country. At the center operates a Museum of Folk crafts, which are displayed exhibits related to the region.
Semiannual report on the results of research works carried out by SRSC
According to the results of researchers conducted at SHRNTS for the half-year period, began works on genetic certification of fruit plants, in particular stone and pome plants. SRSC has achieved a number of successes in the field of expansion of international relations.
So, was signed a memorandum on cooperation between Agrarian University, Bulgaria in the field of basic and applied research. Between SRSC and Experimental Station of Sericulture and Agriculture Agricultural Academy, Bulgaria signed an agreement on scientific and technical cooperation for 2016-2020 years. The center's employees attended the 16 conferences held in Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Russia and other countries.
Under the supervision of the Director of SRSC, PhD in Physical and Mathematical Sciences Yusif Shyukurlu the 6 center staffs were in a scientific mission in Tbilisi, Georgia, whithin frameworks took part in the International scientific conference organized by the Academy of Agricultural Science Foundation of Georgia after Shota Rustaveli on 28-30 September 2016.
This year, by employees of SRSC was published article in two journals with impact factor.
All these facts indicate that, SRSC successfully represented abroad. This academician institution has made significant progress in the field of science popularization of Azerbaijan in the international arena.
