Corresponding member of ANAS Zakir Garayev is 75

On November 27, Honored Scientist, Doctor of Medical sciences, corresponding member of ANAS - Zakir Garayev is 75 years old.

Zakir Garayev was born in Goyerchin village, Dilijan county, Western Azerbaijan (Armenia USSR) in 1941. Graduated from Azerbaijan Medical Institute on behalf N.Narimanov (currently Azerbaijan Medical University) department of Sanitation and hygiene in 1962.

Zakir Garayev gained a title of PhD in Medicine in 1968, Doctor of Sciences in 1974, a Professor – 1990. In 2014, he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS.

He started his career in the county Goycha, Western Azerbaijan, in 1968-1974. Scientist served as Director of Central Research Laboratory of the Azerbaijan State Medical Institute, and in 1974-1975 - senior research fellow of the Research Laboratory of the National Institute of Advanced Medical Studies in Leningrad. In 1975-1982 worked a director of the laboratory, in the 1982-1993, as a director of the Scientific Center of Mycology and deep mycoses USSR Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization.

Z.Garayev has great achievements in the field of study of the effect of various microorganisms), radiation, hormones, antibiotics, etc. On the development of the mechanism of the formation of secondary immune deficiencies and infections, as well as improve their methods of diagnosis, prevention and treatment.

He is the author of over 300 scientific papers, including 4 monographs. The book "Medical Mycology" about mycological diagnosis and treatment of disease, co-written with T.Aliyev is the only one in this area in the country. 70 candidates of sciences and 21 doctors trained under the supervision of Z.Garayev.

The scientist was the chairman of the Dissertation Council of the Azerbaijan Medical University, since 2010 - the editor in chief of the journal "Infection and Immunity", a member of the editorial board of the international journal "HIV and Immunosuppression" in St. Petersburg. He organized three congresses of world scale in the USSR and was also the organizer and president of the International Congress “III Eurasian clinical microbiology, immunology and infectious diseases", held October 1-4, 2009 in Baku. In addition, the scientist is an academician and an honorary doctor of a number of authoritative scientific societies and universities in the world.

In 2010, the eminent scientist was awarded the honorary title "Honored Worker of Science."
