Institute of Information Technology held a scientific seminar dedicated to the International Mother Language Day. Computer linguistics, language engineering and industry, informatics emotion, language reflection in the virtual space, as well as the introduction of computer technology in linguistics and other issues were discussed at the seminar.

Chief department of the Institute, Dr. Engineering Ramiz Alguliyev delivered a lecture on “Scientific-theoretic challenges and research directions of language industry”, and informed about scientists who had great merits in this field, different views, new approaches, terms, concepts etc.

He dealt with approaches by American linguist George Kingsley Zipf, who was engaged in the study of statistical regularities in natural languages, and Zipf principles that are widely used in the field of language industry, as well as the well-known American linguist and scientists, author of classification of formal languages, role of "Father of Modern Linguistics" –Noam Komski in this area.

R. Alguliyev stated that, language industry deals with creation of computer systems by applying language skills due to recognize, understand, interpret and generate the natural language. He also informed about research directions of language industry such as language speaker’s identification and verification, natural language recognition, symbols and text recognition, natural language understanding, natural language and speech generation, including its architecture, key processes and methods.

Scientist made speech on challenges of Azerbaijani language industry as well. He drew attention to the studies carried out at the Institute of Information Technology and defending of theses in this field. For solving existed problems, it is necessary to elaborate morphologic and lexical analysis of algorithms, semantic network of the words, text base, speech base, translation programs, national search and anti-plagiarism systems, he noted.
