On April 5, a notable researcher in the field of radiation material science, Director of the Institute of Radiation Problems, Dr. Physics-math Prof. Ogtay Samadov is 65 years old.

Ogtay Samadov was born on April 5, 1952 in the village of Kholgarabujag, Neftchala region in a teacher family. In 1969 finished Salyan city secondary school N 2 named after Nizami, successfully graduated from Physics department of Azerbaijan State University in 1975. In 1975-1979 worked as a teacher at the secondary school Kholgarabujag. In 1979, worked as senior researcher at the Institute of Radiation Problems Laboratory of Radiation Physics of Ferroelectrics.

In 1980, entered post-graduate education of the Institute of Radiation Problems, defended PhD thesis on “Dielectrik and pyroelectric analyses of phase translthans of some oxygen-octahedcal spontaneous-polarized crystals” in 1988. 

Professor’s next scientific activity covers the investigation of physical features of phase transitions in spontaneous-polarized crystals. He revealed a new class of relaxation ferroelectrics on the base of TlInS2and TlGaSe2 crystals, also defined super-ionic conductivity in TlGaTe2, TlİnTe2and TlInSe2. Scientist defended doctoral thesis on “Relaxor Ferroelectrics on the base of TlInS 2 and TlGaSe 2 crystals”.

Scientist’s more than 200 articles have been published on the world’s leading publications with impact factor: “Ferroelectrics”, “Physica Status solidi”, “International Journal of Theoretical and Applied Nanotechnology” and other journals.

O.Samadov has gained Professor scientific name by the decision of Supreme Attestation Commission in 2013.

In 2014, he was elected head of the Laboratory of Radiation Physics in Irregular Solids at the Institute of Radiation Problems and in 2015 was appointed director of the institute. During his leadership, with the purpose to ensure nuclear and radiation security, and prevent nuclear and radioactive materials smuggling and nuclear terrorism, installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment at the border crossing points, training courses for staff of border and customs authorities has been carried out by support of US Department of Energy Security and the Institute of Radiation Problems.

Scientist’s achievements repeatedly have been appreciated as vital results in the annual report of ANAS both in USSR Academy of Sciences and after gaining independence.

He was winner of several project competitions of the Science Development Foundation under President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Ukraine Scientific Technical Center. O.Samadov was elected member to Organizing Committee of the International scientific Forum “Nuclear sciences and technologies” to be held in Almaty city, Kazakhstan in September of this year.

He supervised 4 PhDs and a doctor of sciences. Currently, under his guidance 2 doctor of sciences and 3 PhDs on radiation material science are carried out successfully.
