An educational seminar "The role of electronic databases in scientific research" was held at the Institute of Botany of ANAS.

At the event, the head of the Laboratory of Phytosociology of Ecosystems of the Institute, Dr. Naiba Mehdiyeva gave detailed information about the meaning and use of the electronic database. It was noted that on the basis of medicinal plants 1550 plant species are subdivided into 26 parameters. Electronic database allows you to group any information on parameters, obtain information about the properties and features of plants and plant groups in digital form and in the form of a list and conduct other operations.

On the basis of rare plants, accurate and detailed information on species life forms, ecological groups, distribution of species on botanical-geographical areas and vertical zones, endemic category and uniqueness categories, GPS-indicators, useful properties, ontogenetic status of populations and structure is presented on the basis of rare plants. Also in the online mode is an explanation of the use of electronic maps for the distribution of each species.

In the seminar, in which the Council of Young Scientists and Institute specialists took an active part, discussions were held on the topic and answers were given to questions of interest to the staff.

It should be noted that the discussion of these issues is of particular importance in terms of implementing the National Strategy and Action Plan for the Protection and Long-Term Use of Biological Diversity in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2017-2020, the plan "Azerbaijan 2020: Looking to the Future".
