Institute of Archeology and Ethnography is working on the protection of historical monuments

Today, ANAS Institute of Archeology and Ethnography hosted an event in connection with April 18 - the International Day of Monuments and Sites.

Opening the event, Director of the Institute, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Maisa Rahimova noted that, this day is celebrated by the decision of the International Assembly (ICOMOS) of the Council for the Protection of Historic Sites and Monuments to UNESCO in 1983. Stressing that, the territory of Azerbaijan is rich of monuments that reflect all stages of human history, the scientist reported that the state pays special attention to historical monuments.

In her speech, M.Rahimova touched upon issues related to archaeological research, conservation and protection of historical monuments in the territory of Azerbaijan. The scientist noted that, together with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, important work is being done in the direction of researching and protecting monuments.

Then, head of the "Control over monuments and researches" section of the State Service for Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Arif Aliyev said that, Azerbaijani archaeologists are carrying out research that requires dedication for the history of mankind. He stressed the importance of expanding cooperation between the two structures in the future.

At the event, head of the Department of Historical Ethnography of the Institute, Academician Teymur Bunyadov, Head of the Department of Arechology of Azerbaijan of the Ancient Period, Corresponding Member of ANAS Ilyas Babayev, Head of the Department of Stone Age Archeology, Doctor of Historical Sciences. Asadulla Jafarov, Head of the Department of Archaeological Research of New Construction Plots, Ph.D in History Goshgar Goshgarli and others spoke about the work done by the scientific institution in the direction of protection and conservation of monuments and the archaeological potential of Azerbaijan.

In conclusion, were demonstrated slides, reflecting works on protection of monuments and discovered artifacts.
