A regular meeting of the Academic Council of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics was held

May 19, at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS the next meeting of the Academic Council took place.

Opening the event, President of ANAS, Director of the IGG, Academician Akif Alizadeh reported on the expansion of admission to the magistracy of the Academy. The academician instructed department heads, to effectively use the created opportunities and make great efforts in training new personnel.

Academician A.Alizadeh on behalf of the staff congratulated the head of the Department of Fluid Dynamics of Sedimentary Basins of the Institute Akper Feizullayev on the occasion of election as an active member, and Deputy Director of the Institute for Scientific Work Dadash Huseynov - corresponding member of ANAS.

Then D.Huseynov acquainted the participants of the meeting with the issues on the agenda.

The meeting heard a report by the head of the Department of Seismostratigraphy, Academician Parviz Mammadov "Regional seismostratigraphy of the Southern and Middle Caspian". It was noted that as a result of years of geophysical and seismic-stratigraphic research, very interesting scientific results were achieved with respect to the deep structure, paleotectonics, paleogeography, geodynamic evolution of sedimentary complexes with the oil and gas prospects of the Southern and Middle Caspian: "There are undeniable facts about the discovery of the South Caspian basin as a result of rifting and Spreading on the basis of the concept of plate tectonics and its formation during the Wilson cycle, the similarity of its consolidated The layer of the oceanic type and its subduction under the Scythian-Turan platform ".

The report aroused great interest of the participants of the event and responded participants' questions.

A recommendation was made for the preparation of a monograph devoted to the results of seismic stratigraphic studies of P. Mammadov in the basins of the Southern and Middle Caspian.

Then the results of analyzes of scientific research were discussed.

Next, presentations were made on research conducted on the topic "Development of methods for extracting metals of industrial importance from ore and wastes based on membrane technology (exemplified by the ore objects of the Dashkasan district)", works carried out as part of a program signed between ANAS and the National Research Council of Italy, as well as joint works, implemented by IGG and Ukrainian scientists.

In conclusion, a number of current issues were considered.
