Employees of the Ethno-sociological Research Department of ANAS Institute of Archeology and Ethnography continue to explore the Shahdag group living in the mountainous part of Guba.
At this time, the scientist's research object was the village of Griz, on the south-eastern slope of the Shahdag Mountain.
The main purpose of the expedition, led by the head of the Department of Ethno-sociological Research, Doctor of Anthropological Sciences Aliaga Mammadli, was to study the current ethnic and cultural status of the ethnic identity of gnawing, as well as the degree of use of the Griz language in both mono-ethnic and multi-ethnic environment.
According to the preliminary results of A.Mammadli's research, belonging to the sociocultural community of Azerbaijan is a priority for the majority of representatives of various ethnic groups living in our country. He noted that along with this they strictly adhere to their ethnic identity and culture.
In the course of the research it was found that, the Gris still protected pre-Islamic beliefs, in particular, the sanctuaries inside and near the village, as well as beliefs related to fire. In addition, it was established the development here of the art of carpet weaving at a high level.
