At ANAS Presidium regular meeting was listened the report of ANAS Director of ANAS Institute of Architecture and Arts, corresponding member of ANAS Ertagin Salamzadeh on "The problem of periodization of the art of the Turkic peoples" on November 1.

E.Salamzadeh noted that, periodization is one of the main problems in the creation of the history of the arts of the Turkic world and the chronological system, which gives an opportunity to obtain objective information about the culture being studied.

The director of the institute stressed that among the Turkic countries of the post-Soviet space the national art school of Azerbaijan had been most developed, studies in this field began in the 1940s-1950s:"The publication of the History of Architecture of Azerbaijan (1963) national art school. The periodization system presented in the edition consists of the following chronological periods: the beginning of IV-VII, VII-X, XI-XIII, XIII-XIV, XV, XVI-XVII centuries and the 18th century separately. Subsequently, this chronological system was a kind of basis for the development of the historical material of the fine and decorative arts, and in the years that followed underwent fundamental changes".

The speaker said that, the system of periodization of the history of Uzbek art began to be formed almost at the same time with Azerbaijan, and the first generalized results of the study of the history of arts of Turkmenistan were reflected in the 4th volume of the publication "The Art of Countries and Peoples of the World. Short art encyclopedia"(1978).

The speaker stressed that, the art historians of the Turkic-speaking countries, each individually examining the history of the arts of their country within the framework of the scientific paradigm of the Soviet period, tried to identify features that distinguish their art from the art of other Turkic peoples.

Then, ANAS Institute of Architecture and Arts was entrusted to work on the creation of the general history of the arts of Azerbaijan on the basis of a single periodization of the temporal and spatial arts, to study general plots, motifs and forms in the art of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kirghizia and the Turkic autonomies, jointly with the scientists of the Turkic countries of the post-Soviet space and Turkey to investigate the problem of convergence of the Turkic paradigms in the field of periodization.

The resolution reflected such issues as the beginning of work on the creation of a common history of the arts of the Turkic world, encompassing the first stage of fine, arts and crafts and architecture, and in the second stage - temporary arts, as well as work on the problem of periodization through its coordinating with philologists, historians, philosophers and other specialists dealing with this problem.
