Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

An event devoted to the 28th anniversary of 20 January tragedy has been held in Ganja Department of ANAS.

First of all, the memory of martyrs who lost their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a one-minute silence.

Speaking at the ceremony, academician Fuad Aliyev spoke about the crimes committed by the Soviet empire in January 1990 against the civilian population in Azerbaijan for independence and freedom, adding that January 20 tragedy left unforgettable impressions on the memory of our people.

Head of the Department of History of the Institute of Ethnography, Professor Hasan Sadigov, scientific worker of that department Matanat Aliyeva and a junior scientific worker Ayten Ismayilova, Associate Professor Imran Gasimov, Chairman of Yap Ganja Organization Youth Union Yuksel Mammadov and others spoke in detail about the events of January 20 and noted that this night was not only a tragedy in the history of Azerbaijan, but also the day of awakening of the national liberation wish.

At the end, a documentary film about the January 20 tragedy was demonstrated.
