On January 24, the regular meeting of ANAS Presidium was held at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics.
At the meeting Director of the center, Doctor of agrarian sciences, Professor Farman Guliyev reported on scientific and scientific-organizational activities of ANAS Lankaran Regional Scientific Center (LRSC) in 2017. He said that, last year were conducted studies in accordance with priority directions, within the framework of state programs and the Development Concept "Azerbaijan 2020: A Look into the Future".
Director noted that, in the reporting year, the center's employees conducted scientific research aimed at assessing the current state and dynamics of plant diversity, protecting and rationally using resources, and finding archaeological and numismatic materials in the southeast of Azerbaijan.
Professor F.Guliyev said that, in the center headed by him the priority areas of research were identified such issues as improving the fertility and quality of tea plantations in the country, creating new varieties of tea and tea bushes in the peculiar soil and climatic conditions of the Lankaran-Astara zone, applying them in the household, etc. He noted that in the reporting year studies were conducted in the field of clonal breeding, based on collected samples in the State Service for Registration of Plant Varieties and Seed Control under the Ministry of Agriculture, it was revealed that the quality of tea varieties is high.
Having said that, other research works were related to varieties and forms of Lankaran lemon, F.Guliyev noted that, the research was aimed at protecting and restoring the morphological, biological and economic significance of varieties that are not widely used in local conditions, assessing these varieties in terms of modern breeding, selection of varieties for quality indicators and the creation of new varieties.
In the report F.Guliyev told about the research of the Department of Archeology, functioning at the scientific center, which were aimed at studying the actual problems of archeology in the region: "Archaeological reconnaissance works have been carried out on more than 20 archeological monuments of the region, new monuments have been registered. In addition, an archaeological foundation was created, in which the clay products were found. Currently, the department is working on the creation of a monograph "Archaeological Monuments of Lankaran" and "Lankaran Archaeological Map".
The head of the scientific center noted that, the study of coins found in the southeastern region and dating from the 1st century BC end of the 18th century AD, will lead to a major breakthrough in the study of the numismatics of the region: "Topographical features and the purpose of coins found in the region are determined, they are included in the scientific revolution. On the basis of monetary finds, the socio-political and socio-economic situation of the region was first described in the period under study".
In his report F.Guliyev touched upon such issues as the conferences held in the LRNC, anniversaries, awards received, foreign business trips, etc., cited statistical data.
After listening the report, was held discussions, a report on the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the LRSC in 2017 was approved. At the meeting, the scientific center was instructed to develop an action plan aimed at establishing strong points in Lankaran, Astara, Masalli and Lerik districts, expanding cooperation with relevant scientific institutions of ANAS, as well as Georgia, Iran and Turkey, etc. The decision of the Presidium approved the composition of the Academic Council of the LRSC.
