A scientific conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the "Azerbaijan" newspaper was held by the Institute of History at the Main building of ANAS.

Director of the Institute, academician Yagub Mahmudov said that the conference was held within the framework of the “Year of the People's Republic of Azerbaijan” declared by the President of Azerbaijan on January 10, 2018. He noted that the materials published in the "Azerbaijan" newspaper are of great importance in studying the history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

During the period from 1918 to 1920, "Azerbaijan" newspaper published hundreds of articles on the socio-political, economic, scientific and cultural life of our country.

Mahmudov said that he had worked closely with the newspaper "Azerbaijan" and published articles about the genocide of Azerbaijanis in the history of Iravan, Nakhchivan and Karabakh.

Then MP, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Bakhtiyar Sadigov made a report entitled "Azerbaijan" as an attribute of our independence ". He said in his report that the newspaper "Azerbaijan" widely promoted the name of Azerbaijan and the ideology of Azerbaijanism and gained the status of official state newspaper. After the parliament of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic started its work on December 7, 1918, broadly clarified his activities and published stenographic reports from the important sessions of the parliament under the rubric "Assembly of Azerbaijan", he notified.

Then head of Department of history of the genocide of Azerbaijani people at the institute, PhD in history Natig Mammadzadeh's "Azerbaijan" newspaper is a mirror of the social-political life of the Republic " head of the Caucasian history department, Dr. in history Irada Bagirova's " Azerbaijani Press in Democratic Republic" and other topics were listened.

It should be noted that within the framework of the conference, the Institute of History organized a book exhibition of important publications of the enterprise on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the "Azerbaijan" newspaper and the funds were presented to the editorial office of the newspaper.

In addition, the print and electronic versions of the newspaper's 1993-2017 edition were donated to the History Institute.
