Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry (ANAS) held scientific conference devoted to the 80th anniversary of the famous chemist, laureate of the "Shohrat" Order, head of the department of this institution, academician Ajdar Mejidov.

At the event, vice-president of ANAS, director of the institute, academician Dilgam Tagiyev spoke about the life and work of the scientist.

He noted that, A. Mejidov started his scientific career at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the USSR Academy of Sciences in (1964-1969). In 1969-1988 he worked as a laboratory head at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR, and since 1988 has been working at the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry. At present, the scientist occupies the position of head of department and head of the laboratory of this institute.

D.Tagiyev brought to the attention that, in 1966 A.Mejidov received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry, in 1984 - Doctor of Chemical Sciences, in 1985 - Professor. In 2001 he was elected as corresponding member of ANAS and in 2017 - as active member of ANAS.

D.Tagiyev emphasized that, the scientists for the first time synthesized crystalline complex compounds of metals with paramagnetic ligands (Schiff bases, carboxylate, xanthate, etc.) containing stable nitroxide radicals. Their crystal and molecular structure was studied, the distances between the paramagnetic centers were determined: the energies of exchange interactions between the spin centers in these systems were first computed and estimated.

It was noted that, the scientist-chemist is the author of more than 220 scientific works and his studies were highly appreciated by the international scientific community.

Vice-president of ANAS stressed that, the scientist was awarded the Order "Shohrat" for effective scientific and pedagogical activity on the order of the head of state.

Chairman of the trade union organization of the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry, doctor of chemical sciences, professor Arif Efendi, head of the department of the Institute of petrochemical processes, doctor of chemical sciences Etibar Ismayilov, head of the laboratory of the institute "Neftqazelmitədqiqatlayihə" SOCAR, doctor of chemical sciences Riyat Ismayilov and others spoke about the life and work of the scientist and his high human qualities.

In conclusion, A.Mejidov expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants of the event.
