Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

Farewell ceremony was held today at the Main building of ANAS with the famous surgeon of Azerbaijan, Director of the Department of Surgical Diseases of the Azerbaijan Medical University, Director of the Scientific Surgery Center named after M.Topichubashov, Academician Boyukkishi Aghayev.

State and government officials, scientists and medical workers, health workers, public and media representatives attended the ceremony.

A wreath was laid on behalf of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in front of the coffin of the scientist.

Opening the ceremony Akif Alizadeh, president of ANAS, said that the scientific community of Azerbaijan suffered a great loss. The head of ANAS spoke about the considerable contribution to the development of science and healthcare in the country by outstanding scientist, academician Boyukchi Aghayev's many years of scientific and pedagogical activity in the country.

Academician Akif Alizadeh underlined that since 1973 to the present day he headed the II Department of Surgical Diseases of Azerbaijan Medical University. He noted that valuable researches of the scientist at the institute of surgical gastroenterology in the republic have opened wide opportunities for fundamental research in this direction and their application in the treatment.

Then, the Minister of Health Ogtay Shiraliyev spoke about the exceptional services of Boyukkishi Agayev, a special place in the healthcare sector of Azerbaijan, in the training of numerous surgeons in our country.

Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov, academician-secretary of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences, spoke about the life and rich scientific activity of prominent scientist at the event, adding that academician Boyukkishi Aghayev constantly enriched his medical science, health and education with tireless theoretical and practical activity, a fertile scientist who was trying to expand his fields, was a capable healthcare professional. He showed great interest in medicine since childhood and spent the night at emergency medical service in his student years.

It was noted that B.Agayev was the author of more than 400 scientific and publicist works, including 9 inventions and more than 25 rationalization proposals. Under his leadership, 62 PhDs and 11 Doctor of Sciences defended medicine. At present, the academician's staff represents the highest level of medical science in the international scientific institutions.

It was noted that B.Agayev was awarded the honorary title "Honored Scientist of the Azerbaijan SSR" for his contribution to the development of Azerbaijan's medical science and was honored with the Order of Honor in 1998.

The rich scientific heritage of well-known scientist and educator, honest man B.Agayev will always live and serve our people and be passed from generation to generation.

Rector of Azerbaijan Medical University, Professor Garay Garaybeyli, Director of the AMU Training Surgery Clinic, Professor Surkhay Hadiyev talked about B.Agayev's rich scientific, pedagogical activity, high moral qualities and shared his memories of the scientist.

His nephew, Rauf Agayev, who spoke on behalf of his family, expressed deep gratitude for the respect shown to the memory of the scientist.

Then the funeral of the prominent scientist was sent to the final journey.

The scientist has been buried in Honorary Alley II.
