Nakhchivan puts into operation Salt Museum

Nakhchivan Salt Museum, established under the Order of Vasif Talibov, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on September 12, 2017, was put into operation on April 25.

Chairman of Nakhchivan Division of ANAS, acad. Ismayil Hajiyev said that during the years of independence, comprehensive study of the history of Nakhchivan started. He noted that during the researches carried out in the autonomous republic, it was determined that salt was extracted from the Nakhchivan Duzdag by mining method in the V century BC. This is the first experience of salt in the world in this way.

The Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov also spoke about the Nakhchivan Salt Museum as an important event. In order to explore the history of Nakhchivan, it is necessary to study the history of the Nakhchivan salt. Because of Nakhchivan's salt, Nakhchivan's formation in the city was a great significance. The formation of the city of Nakhchivan began with the first release of salt in 5-7 thousand years ago in Nakhchivan. Historians from different countries have also been informed about this, the speaker underlined.

The Chairman of the Supreme Assembly said that the first event dedicated to Nakhchivan Duzdagh was an international symposium titled "Nakhchivan in international resources" held in 1996, adding that new facts were being discussed at the event on Nakhchivan's Duzdag culture.

It was noted that national leader Heydar Aliyev created the Nakhchivan Division of ANAS in order to study the history of Nakhchivan and set important tasks in this area.

The Chairman of the Supreme Assembly expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the establishment of the Nakhchivan Salt Museum and wished the collective success in his future work.

Then he visited the museum. It was informed that the museum consists of exposition hall and work rooms. The museum includes 81 exhibits, various figures made of salt, books published on Nakhchivan Duzdag, newspapers published on Nakhchivan city, Noah's prophet and Nakhchivan, Duzdag culture and salt fields, and collection of documents "Duzdag".

In the end, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly gave relevant instructions to the Nakhchivan Division of ANAS to hold archeological excavations related to Nakhchivan salt, to hold international conferences on Duzdag culture, to showcase information about the Nakhchivan salt in the museum, and to organize handcrafts from Nakhchivan artisans.
