Presented British orientalist Michael Axworthy’s "Nadir shah" book at ANAS

British well-known orientalist Michael Axworthy’s "Nadir shah" book, translated into Azerbaijani, organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Z.Bunyadov, presented at the Main Building of ANAS.

The book was published in "East-West" publishing house under the editorship of head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev.

The ceremony was opened by academician Isa Habibbayli, vice-president of ANAS, and he said that R.Mehdiyev has been one of the key figures of the political-ideological processes under the leadership of great leader Heydar Aliyev and now President Ilham Aliyev. He said that the academician, as a statesman and scientist, plays an important role in studying the scientific and theoretical foundations such as Azerbaijanism, national-moral values, and modernity.

27 letters about the Nadir Shah, who created a great empire from the Caucasus to India, were translated to our mother language for the first time and were presented to the reader together with commentary.

The book is a valuable contribution to the Azerbaijani historiography, the author uses the sources of Ottoman, Iranian and Russian sources, as well as reflects anecdotes about Nadir shah Academician-Secretary of the Department of Social Sciences of ANAS, academician Nargiz Akhundova stated.

Then director of the Institute of History of ANAS, academician Yagub Mahmudov emphasized the importance of the history of each nation. He said that academician Ramiz Mehdiyev always pays attention to the history of Azerbaijan, the Safavid Empire, Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

Y.Mahmudov noted that Nadir Shah was brutally punished in western circles, but instead made many humanistic steps to improve the living conditions of the empire.

Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Academician Govhar Bakhshaliyeva underlined the importance of the Coordination Council within the Social Sciences Department to conduct systematic studies in the field of science.

Deputy director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, academician Shahin Mustafayev, head of the department of Iranian history and economics, Phd in history, docent Vidadi Mustafayev, head of Southern Azerbaijan department, Phd in history, docent Samad Bayramzadeh, PhD in philosophy, Deputy Director for scientific Works, Eynulla Madatli and others spoke about the historical importance of translation of the book.
